So………I was looking forward to this race. I promise I was! Then why did I only do a few short runs?
Honestly, boot camp and life just completely took over my life. The weather has been sucky here, and I had a million and one excuses each day. After this race, I vowed to never sign up for a race again without swearing to myself to stick to a training plan. I just am not sure what I am trying to prove by running a race without fully being trained? So, to the cyber world, I am declaring if I ever fall back on a training plan, I WILL not race. It is not fair to my fellow runners, or to my body!
Anyways, start time was at 7am. It was right next to a metro station, so it was perfect! I arrived at 6:15am and found a tree to use to stretch.
And then this happened:
Thank goodness it was chilly and I had a throw away sweater on. I just laughed at myself and tried not to even think about it. I saw Tori about 3 minutes later, and was in such a daze she probably thought I was crazy:) BTW, she looks way too cute when she is about to run a half marathon!
I got in my corral, did some of the group stretching, and before we knew it we were on the red carpet and about to start!
And we were off. I thought I was doing pretty well for the first 5 miles. And then at Mile 6, something happened.
I was in terrible pain, and decided to lay on the ground. I was able to massage my knee, when some random guy saw I was crying and decided to help massage my knee. He was definitely an angel! He gave me a pep talk and told me, the worst was over, now the courses is just beautiful and a great tour of the city. I didn’t catch his name, but am thankful!
I got back up and did a skip almost for 1/4 of a mile. I finally was able to focus on each step, and not worry about the knee as much.
Here are some pictures of moments from the course:
So even though I got pooped on, my watch wouldn’t turn on, it was a little crowded in the tunnels, I had terrible shooting pain in my knee…..I would do it all over again. The volunteers were great and the course was beautiful! AND I just love cherry blossoms:) They were the centerpieces at my wedding.
My next half marathon will be Rock n’ Roll Savannah. I am shooting for a 2:30 time. Since I am making it public, clearly that means I will be held to this!! Running with a group of friends, and I am clearly the slowest, so I need to step up!
PS: I wrote this blog last night, but something happened to the last half of it when I went to publish it. Thanks to everyone who cared! I didn’t realize so many people read it:)
